Area Coordinator, First Year Students

Rhode Island College invites applicants for the position of Area Coordinator, First Year Students. This is a full-time, calendar year, continuing position.

Reporting to the Director of Residential Life/Assistant Dean of Students the Area Coordinator for First Year Students serves as a key member of the team in Residential Life. The Area Coordinator for First Year Students manages and executes a first-year residential experience program that facilitates new students’ successful transition to college and on-campus living. The Area Coordinator for First Year Students provides day to day supervision to all first-year student residence halls (approximately 500 students), 2 part-time graduate hall directors, and overall supervision of first year Resident Assistants.
 
The Area Coordinator for First Year Students will collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to support the vision and strategy for first year student success, contributing to a co-curricular educational experience that complements Rhode Island College’s curriculum and promotes student engagement and leadership development. They will collaborate with faculty, counselors, other qualified professionals, and college staff to provide resources and interventions that promote student achievement. In addition, the primary goal of the Area Coordinator for First Year Students is to retain current students by purposefully inspiring and strategizing to raise first-year students’ experience. The Area Coordinator for First Year Students serves in a professional on call rotation, and provide crisis intervention support to on-call staff.
 
Required qualifications:                                                                                                                                                                  

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, higher education or related field.
  • Previous residence hall employment experience.                                                                                                                                                 
Preferred qualifications:
  • Demonstrated skills in administration, organization, and supervision.
  • Technological Competency with social media platforms.
  • Bilingual in English/ Spanish (fluent in speaking and writing).
