Career Specialist

Rhode Island College invites applicants for the position of Career Specialist. This is full-time, calendar year, continuing position.          

The Career Development Center provides a range of services for students and alumni that may be helpful at any point of the career decision-making or job search process. The Career Development Center facilitates programs, initiatives and services that support career readiness, career exploration, internship engagement, student employment and employer relations. The office hosts several targeted job and internship career fairs, schedules on-campus interviews with prospective employers, sponsors career programs, and conducts workshops on topics such as job searches, resume writing, and interviewing. The Career Development Center also provides students with assistance with graduate studies program search and personal statements. The College's student employment program that offers career-related on-campus opportunities is also administered by the Center.
           
Reporting to the Director of Career and Life Design, the Career Specialist will provide career advisement and career readiness skills to students – both undergraduate and graduate – and alumni through individual, classroom, group, and other delivery methods on all aspects of self-assessment, career exploration, and professional development from admissions to post-graduation though the life design model. The Career Specialist will work with the team to promote and encourage internship and experiential education opportunities. This position is an essential component to preparing graduates for careers in emerging sectors through a scaffolded approach from admissions to graduation.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with relevant experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience recruiting or providing career/academic advising in a higher education setting to aspiring college students or individuals transitioning to the workforce.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in college student personnel services, counseling or a related field.
  • Academic or career advising experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in career database platforms.
  • Experience working with college policy, college curriculum, academic coaching and campus resources in an advising setting.
  • Proficiency in student record systems, preferably Peoplesoft.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology, including current social media applications.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (verbal and written).
     
Proposed starting salary: $53,000-$55,000
