The Administration’s “energy addition, not subtraction” policy needs to include Revolution Wind

AN OPEN LETTER TO LEADERS IN WASHINGTON

We write at a time of great concern about the region’s energy future.

The combination of high energy costs and recent actions by the federal government to limit New England’s energy options leaves the Rhode Island business community with deep concerns about the grid’s capacity to withstand growing energy demand – and the ability of companies to weather unpredictable and rising electric bills.

The strength of our economy is at stake. That’s why the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, representing over 17,000 members, is imploring federal leaders to recognize:
New England needs more energy now. We need affordable energy. And we need a reliable energy mix with an all-of-the-above approach.
All businesses benefit from certainty and stability, especially when it comes to energy costs.
Revolution Wind must be part of our overall energy supply. This project will help power our electric grid – at fixed pricing for 20 + years. That’s locked-in price stability businesses can count on to help balance fluctuations in regional markets.
This project will power the equivalent of 350,000 Rhode Island and Connecticut homes – at costs lower than the current price for retail electricity supply in the region.
Revolution Wind will save Rhode Island ratepayers millions on electric costs. Some estimates have found that New England ratepayers could face $500 million annually in higher costs without the offshore wind projects currently under construction.
Without Revolution Wind fully operational, New England could face issues with grid reliability, warns independent grid operator ISO-New England.

Bottom line: The Administration’s “energy addition, not subtraction” policy needs to include Revolution Wind as part of New England’s energy mix.

STAND WITH US, RHODE ISLAND’S BUSINESS COMMUNITY, IN ENSURING REVOLUTION WIND REACHES THE FINISH LINE. WE ARE COUNTING ON THIS PROJECT TO HELP POWER OUR ECONOMY NOW AND BEYOND.
