People's Credit Union Celebrates 18th Year Sponsoring the Newport Gulls' FANatic About Reading Program
For the 18th consecutive year, People’s Credit Union has partnered with the Newport Gulls by sponsoring the FANatic About Reading Program to promote the importance of reading for elementary school students on Aquidneck Island. The Newport Gulls collegiate athletes have been volunteering their time at local elementary schools to read books to children in their classrooms.
As part of the program, players also hand out bookmarks and ask the students to read four books over the summer. Special this year, children also received tickets with the opportunity to win fun prizes, including a ceremonial first pitch at Cardines Field in Newport, a uniform jersey shirt, and a game bat, both signed by team mascots Gully and Gully, Jr. Tickets can be dropped off or filled out at any People’s Credit Union branch location until July 13th.
On Wednesday, July 22nd, People’s Credit Union will host their FANatic About Reading Night at Cardines Field to honor the students for their accomplishments.
In all, the FANatic About Reading Program reaches over 3,000 students in 150+ classrooms on Aquidneck Island each year.
