Panel of R.I. Preservation Leaders to Present “America 250 and Beyond''

The public is invited to hear from six experts in Rhode Island history and historic preservation as they delve into the commemorations of America’s 250th anniversary and why this small state has an outsized role.
Hosted by The Preservation Society of Newport County and moderated by its CEO and Executive Director Trudy Coxe, "America 250 and Beyond: Perspectives from Preservation Leaders" will be held on Thursday, February 12, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at historic Rosecliff. The program also may be viewed by Zoom video conference.
As the United States begins its semiquincentennial celebrations, this event brings together the executive leadership of Rhode Island’s most prominent historical organizations to explore how the 250th anniversary will shape commemorative activities, inclusive storytelling and preservation efforts across the Ocean State.
The distinguished panel will include Gregg Amore, Rhode Island Secretary of State; Rebecca Bertrand, Executive Director, Newport Historical Society; C. Morgan Grefe, Ph.D., Executive Director, Rhode Island Historical Society; Paul Marshall, Executive Director, The Fort Adams Trust; and Gina Tangorra, Director of Engagement, Newport Restoration Foundation.
"This milestone anniversary year is a reminder of the many ways our nation’s revolutionary spirit continues to influence our identity today," Coxe said. "It is an opportunity to look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation while honoring the contributions of all Americans."
A pre-program reception begins at 5:30 p.m.
