Cynthia Nixon in Conversation at The Breakers April 26

Cynthia Nixon, the Emmy, Tony and Grammy award‑winning actor best known for her roles in HBO’s “The Gilded Age” and “Sex and the City,” will be the star of “An Evening with Cynthia Nixon” on Sunday, April 26, at The Breakers.

In conversation, Nixon will discuss her portrayal of the compassionate Ada Brook in “The Gilded Age” as well as other experiences in her long career as an actor, director and producer. The event will be hosted by The Preservation Society of Newport County.

Created and written by Julian Fellowes of “Downton Abbey” fame, “The Gilded Age” has been filmed at several of the Preservation Society’s Newport Mansions during its first three seasons. The series is currently filming its fourth season in Newport.

“The Preservation Society has been fortunate to host several luminaries of ‘The Gilded Age’ over the past few years, starting with a conversation with Lord Fellowes in July 2022 in front of a packed house in The Breakers,” said Trudy Coxe, CEO and executive director. “Cynthia Nixon is a remarkable talent and personality, and her talk will be a real treat for our audience.”

The Preservation Society’s previous guests from the series also include actors Christine Baranski and Denée Benton; Dr. Erica Armstrong Dunbar, the show’s co-executive producer and historical consultant; and production designer Bob Shaw, whose team won an Emmy Award for their work on the show.

Nixon also starred in, directed and served as an executive producer in the “Sex and the City” sequel series, “And Just Like That …”. She is also known for her acclaimed stage and film performances, including her portrayal of Emily Dickinson in "A Quiet Passion" (2016) and her Broadway debut in "The Philadelphia Story" (1980) at the age of 14.

“An Evening with Cynthia Nixon” will be moderated by Brian Scott-Smith, an award-winning journalist and host of “Morning Edition” on WSHU in Connecticut. The event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a curated conversation starting at 6:30. Go to www.newportmansions.org/events/an-evening-with-cynthia-nixon for information and tickets.
