Centreville Bank Funds Mobile Food Pantry in Rhode Island and Awards $80,000 to Support Food Pantries Across RI and CT

The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation announced a major investment to help address an increased food need in Southern New England.

Centreville Bank today announced $180,000 in new funding to address the rising level of food insecurity in Rhode Island and Connecticut, including an investment to launch a new mobile food pantry in Central Falls and donations to support local food pantries serving families facing food insecurity.

Community organizations throughout the region are experiencing an increase in demand for food assistance and report significant increase in families who for the first time are looking for help, including growing numbers of seniors, working parents, and children.

Bridgett Duquette, Executive Director of the Central Falls Foundation, shared, “This $100,000 donation from the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation represents a transformative investment for the Central Falls Mobile Food Pantry. As the first mobile pantry in the City of Central Falls, this project marks a historic step for our community. Without Centreville Bank’s support, reaching this milestone would have been incredibly difficult. Thank you to everyone involved, this effort comes at a time of great vulnerability for our families and will allow us to provide an essential service that our community deserves.”

The Centreville Bank mobile food pantry funding will support the purchase, outfitting, staffing, and first-year operations of a mobile distribution program designed to reach residents who face transportation challenges or live in areas without consistent access to food resources. The mobile pantry will visit neighborhoods, senior housing, and community centers throughout the city.

In addition, the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation is providing $80,000 in donations to food pantries throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut. These funds are intended to help organizations replenish supplies, expand access to fresh produce, and maintain essential daily operations as they respond to record demand.

With food costs continuing to rise and many households still navigating recent effects of the government shutdown, Centreville Bank’s goal is to help community partners as they are providing critical, frontline assistance.

“We are committed to working alongside our partners throughout Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut” said Paola Fernandez, SVP, Community Development at Centreville Bank. “This donation allows us to respond and meet the immediate needs of families who are struggling right now. With rising food insecurity, every week counts, and this contribution ensures we can provide fresh, nutritious food to households that might otherwise go without.”
