A Tribute to Judge Frank Caprio

Judge Frank Caprio was known for his kindness, warmth, and humor. Whether growing up the son of Italian immigrants on Federal Hill in Providence, working his way through law school, serving as a Municipal Court Judge or inspiring millions of viewers on television and on social media, Judge Caprio embodied the principles of fairness, compassion, and dedication to justice.
His humble roots helped Judge Caprio view the world from the perspective of others and dedicate his life to service. That commitment to service was exemplified by his devotion to his family, his community, all those who appeared before his bench, the many fans he encountered as a social media personality, and most recently, as the author of his book Compassion in the Court: Life-Changing Stories from America’s Nicest Judge.
A few months ago, Chamber President Laurie White spoke with Judge Caprio about his life, his many years in the courtroom, and his new book. In the conversation, Judge Caprio’s high regard for the many small businesses that make up a large part of our local business community was evident. Following his parents’ example of working hard to better the lives of those around him, he clearly understood what it meant to sacrifice for others, to encourage others along the way, and to believe that compassion in the form of service is the best path to a successful life and business.
Judge Caprio’s friendship, wisdom, and empathy for others continue to serve as an example to the countless lives he touched. His long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer was a beacon of hope for so many people suffering through health challenges and other struggles in life.
Our sympathies go out to Judge Caprio’s wife of almost six decades, Joyce Caprio, his five children, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and the many loved ones and cherished friends who were such an important part of his life and legacy.
